Festival Vasi comunicanti - second edition

In the border area between Lugano, Mendrisiotto and Varesotto, the historical, geographical and economic link between Lombardy and Canton Ticino is daily. If we talk about cultural activities, however, despite the obvious points of contact between the "two worlds", the border seems to be a limit, a fracture.

In 2019 VASI COMUNICANTI came to life with a zero edition, which wanted to trace the tracks for the development of a multi-year program that will increase the size of the project both qualitatively and quantitatively.

In this difficult year of health emergency, Karakorum Teatro and Fondazione Claudia Lombardi per il teatro do not want to give up the work of developing the territory, which can and must become an important opportunity to restart and, in collaboration with the municipalities of Porto Ceresio, Ponte Tresa, Morcote and Lugano give life to this new edition #fase2version of the festival.

While maintaining the restrictions provided for by ministerial decrees, they are expected to remain valid:

- 4 artistic-territorial residencies, one per municipality. Four artists will involve citizens in a survey and research on local history and culture (stories, memories and legends) with workshops, participatory research (focus groups, collection of letters, photographs, etc.) and interviews. The process will give rise to 4 short unpublished theatrical performances to be staged for small groups of spectators in an immersive way in the landscape.

- A theatrical performance (in the municipality of Lugano, in Càsoro, which can be realized keeping the social distance between the participants), on themes related to borders and frontiers.

- 6 days of "traveling stories", during which the artists involved in the project will cross the territory bringing with them the stories produced. During this territorial tour, from square to square, from courtyard to courtyard, from beach to beach, the actors will stage the territory making the stories of the four countries merge into one story of the Lake. On each day, the municipalities will be animated by the presence of at least one actor who will stage the stories with small groups in various places with great tourist potential.
